Facility:
This is a Level II Trauma Center providing comprehensive trauma services to the Northern California region. The facility features strong support staff, including a day shift Trauma NP/PA, and utilizes Cerner Care B as its EMR system, offering a well-supported clinical environment for trauma care providers.

Opportunity:
Physician Assistant (PA) – Surgery – Trauma

Job Details:

  • Provide Trauma Service APP coverage during PM shifts (3 p.m. to 1 a.m.) at a Level II Trauma Center
  • Manage a daily patient census of 20-25 patients on the Trauma Service
  • Take patient histories, perform physical exams, and make assessments and diagnoses
  • Initiate, review, and revise treatment and therapy plans
  • Order x-rays, lab procedures, therapeutic diets, physical therapy, occupational therapy, respiratory therapy, and nursing services
  • Recognize and evaluate emergency situations requiring immediate physician attention and institute life-saving treatment procedures when necessary
  • Instruct and counsel patients regarding physical and mental health matters including medications, diets, and long-term disease management
  • Initiate arrangements for admissions, complete medical record documentation, and coordinate continuing care services
  • Facilitate patient referrals to appropriate health facilities, agencies, and community resources
  • Administer or transmit medication orders under supervising physician oversight
  • Monitor, manage, and discharge all patients on the trauma service while supporting the on-call trauma surgeon
  • Required procedures include: local anesthesia, laceration repair (basic and intermediate), dressing changes, drain removal, suture removal, wound debridement and closure, basic management of non-displaced fractures, removal of superficial foreign bodies, hemostasis, incision and drainage, cervical spine clearance, chest tube insertion and removal, burn management (partial thickness less than 10%), arterial line insertion, fracture reductions, reduction of simple dislocations, and central line insertion
  • Must be actively working at a TJC-accredited hospital
  • Active California PA license required; CA DEA required
  • NCCPA certification required
  • Completion of CA CSEC (California Controlled Substance Education Course) required for PAs
  • ACLS, ATLS, and BLS certifications required
  • Trauma or Critical Care experience required
  • Clean malpractice and background history required
  • Estimated credentialing timeframe: 15-30 days upon receipt of fully completed application

Compensation:
Competitive hourly rates with weekly pay and malpractice included.
