This medical group is a well-established healthcare organization in Fort Wayne providing comprehensive cardiovascular and cardiothoracic surgical services. The facility handles high-acuity adult cardiac, thoracic, vascular, and heart failure patients, supported by experienced surgical teams and robust inpatient resources across ICU and stepdown units.
Opportunity:
Board Certified – Advanced Practice (Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner) – Cardiovascular/Cardiothoracic Surgery
Job Details:
- Locums-to-Perm opportunity with a preferred 7-on/7-off schedule Monday through Sunday
- Monday through Friday onsite coverage from 7am to 7pm; providers must arrive by 7am to attend the daily CV Surgery team meeting
- Saturday and Sunday: 24-hour coverage with approximately 4 hours of onsite rounding beginning at 6am, followed by call coverage for the remainder of the day and night
- Weekday call hours are 4:30pm to 6am; weekend call hours are 5pm to 5am
- A weekend rounding nurse is available from 5am to 5pm to assist with first-line phone calls and order management
- Daily rounding on all inpatients including ICU and stepdown patients, new consults, and discharging patients
- 8-10 inpatient encounters per shift
- Medical management and call coverage for inpatient care, ER consultations, and transfers from outside hospitals
- OR responsibilities include EVH (Hemapro 2), assisting with open vein harvest or endoscopic vein harvesting, and first assisting on cases once familiar with surgeon routines
- OR call coverage for emergencies during weekend call may be required
- NP or PA must have cardiothoracic experience; PAs must be proficient in EVH with approximately 500 cases or 10 years of experience
- Cardiac coverage includes all adult cardiac surgeries: CABG, valves, aortic dissections, and more with a high-acuity patient population
- Thoracic coverage includes robotic surgeries, VATs, thoracotomies, lobectomies, wedge resections, decortications, and mediastinal mass procedures (no esophageal)
- Vascular coverage includes all open vascular surgeries: CEA, AAA, leg revascularizations, and more
- Heart failure coverage includes LVAD, ECMO, and Impella management
- Must hold an active Indiana license or IMLC; board certification required
- Required certifications include ACLS and BLS
- Estimated credentialing timeframe is 30 days; temporary/emergency privileges are available
- A personal laptop is required for call coverage
- Start date: August 1, 2026, with ongoing need
